Showcasing is not selling

Get clear on the goal before you buy the platform

A fashion week is a showcasing event. It is not a sales channel and it is not a press agency. This 15 page guide shows you how to set the goal first, then read any invitation against it - so you stop paying for outcomes that were never on the invoice.

Three sentences that save brands thousands

Most disappointment at a showcase is not caused by the organiser. It is caused by a goal that was never written down.

Showcasing is not selling

A catwalk produces attention. Attention is not an order, and nobody in the room has a budget line for you.

Showcasing is not press

Coverage needs a press list, a release and images ready within 24 hours. Without them, the photographers leave and nothing is published.

Press does not generate sales

Buyers do not read their way to a purchase order. They are contacted directly, or they are not contacted at all.

The chain that does not connect itself

Here is the assumption nearly every brand carries into a showcase without saying it aloud:

I show, therefore press comes, therefore people know me, therefore buyers want me, therefore I get orders.

Four arrows. Every one is a mechanism somebody has to build, resource and own - and the chain breaks quietly. Nobody tells you which link failed. You simply come home with nothing and conclude the showcase did not work.

Three of the four belong to you, not to the organiser.

Who owns each link

Showcase to press
Press list, release, images and line sheet within 24 hours — you or your PR

Press to awareness
The right title, read by the right audience, repeated — you

Awareness to buyer interest
Direct approach to named buyers — you or your agent

Buyer interest to order
Line sheet, minimum order value, terms, follow-up — you, always you

What is inside the 15 pages

Written for solo founders and for brands with a small team - No theory, no filler.
Any brand from £0 to £1 million.

The goal sentence

A one-line template with a number and a date in it, plus four worked examples. If you cannot state the goal, you cannot brief anyone or judge anyone.

10 red flags, 10 green flags

What should slow you down and what is genuinely worth paying for. Most of the green flags are boring and administrative. That is the point.

The top 10 questions

Send them by email. Each one comes with what a good answer sounds like and the reply that means walk away. Question 10 settles most of them on its own.

The buying calendar

Ordering windows for both seasons, delivery, sale periods and payment terms in Europe and the USA. Show outside the window and orders will not come, whoever is in the room.

The reversal

Where brands read the season backwards. Rejection is often the green flag. Universal praise is often the red one. Six situations, both readings.

An 18 point scorecard

Six statements about your goal, twelve about the opportunity. Run it before you sign anything. Most brands fail the first six and blame the last twelve.

Who wrote this

Global Fashion Management is a London-based fashion business consultancy with more than 25 years of international experience across five continents, including work with CK, DKNY, Kenzo, Monnalisa, Moschino, Sergio Rossi, Smalto and Versace. We have worked with hundreds of start-ups and MSMEs. Named Management Consulting Business of the Year 2026 by the Global 100 Awards.

We are operations driven. We work on execution rather than on plans that never leave the document, and we tell clients what we actually think - which is why one of them said "you care more about my business than I do".

Before you ask

Not sure what you should be expecting?

That is the most common gap we see, at every level from a first collection to a brand turning over several million. It is also the cheapest one to fix, and it is a conversation to have before you book rather than after you come home.
